On March 14th, there was a significant snow storm here in Waterville Valley.  This storm caused difficult and dangerous travel conditions around town.  As a result of  the storm, the Town Moderator and the Board of Selectmen agreed to postpone the scheduled Town Meeting, both the polling and the deliberative sessions, until Thursday, March 16th.  The Secretary of State and made statements which call into question the legality of the postponement of the voting which causes problems for towns with borrowing money for projects, etc.  The state legislature has passed a law which gives Boards of Selectmen the authority to hold a public hearing and then vote to ratify the decisions made at Town Meeting.

The Waterville Valley Board of Selectmen have scheduled a public hearing for 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10th in the Downstairs Meeting Room of Town Hall.  After the hearing the Board will vote on whether or not to ratify the votes taken at Town Meeting.

Please note that there will only be one vote - it is whether or not to ratify ALL of the decisions made at Town Meeting.  The Board does not have the authority chose which warrant articles they wish to ratify or not.  So, in essence, the Selectmen are simply asking for input on whether or not moving the meeting affected the decisions made at Town Meeting.  Please feel free to come and let the Selectmen know your opinion on the process we followed to postpone the Town Meeting.

The Selectmen look forward to hearing your comments on May 10th.
